| Table of contents |
Overview
The underprivileged of Vrindavan are relishing free meals everyday provided by Food for Life. In addition they are receiving free medical care, sweet drinking water, clothing, stationery, trees planting, and education in environmental awareness.
Vrindavan Food for Life has come a long way since its humble beginning in 1989. Today FFL boasts a vast network of services and a staff of fifteen. A full-time doctor is employed to consult and administer free medicine. Sweet-water wells and overhead tanks have been constructed in three villages.
Social Upliftment
An environmental awareness campaign has been launched to educate school children about the value of maintaining and protecting the environment. The campaign began with students planting trees in their schools. Some are fruit trees and the rest will give shade. Rupa Raghunath Das, FFL director stressed that the increase from distributing free meals to social upliftment was critical and urgent. He explained;
“Many of the villagers approached me about drinking water, they appreciated that we were giving them food but also asked for water. Many of their lakes had dried up, the animals had died, and the people didn’t have proper drinking water. Children suffered with cholera, diarrhoea and other sickness. Hospitals were far away and expensive. So we had the idea of providing both: the drinking water by constructing sweet-water wells and overhead tanks, and employing a doctor to see to the medical needs of the villagers. Food for Life must continue to expand in providing the basic needs for the residents of Vrindavan.”
Free Meal Distribution
Food for Life distributes free meals at the temple and in village schools, we also serve saintly retired persons, the blind, the handicapped, and widows everyday.
Question: How can I make my service to Sri Vrindavan an everlasting one?
Answer: By making a Bank’s fixed deposit of Rs.70,000 (US $1,500). This yields approximately Rs.7,000 interest, which will sponsor one day’s distribution per year. You may offer this in the name of a dear one, or for a special day. This seva will be perpetual, even after your departure from this mortal world.
